The best place to be today

A lone kayaker silhouetted against the horizon

Sky fades from blue to topaz to carnelian to impossible crimson.

The horizon sapphire...indigo...black.

The lighthouse beacon on the mainland blips red... red... red...
Guiding the glittering freighters through the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

Waves lap at the shore.
Across the river a fire juggler dances.

The driftwood burns hot.
You sip your Ungava martini and nibble local cheese and smoked salmon.

And you know the best place to be today is where you are right now.
